I had a great time at the fro yo place! It was great. At one point, this guy's stool broke and shattered on the ground and almost hit me but didn't. It was really awkward and I was glad that I have never broken a chair before in my life haha especially at a frozen yogurt place! I would cry.
Then I went back to my room. When I arrived at my residence hall, I heard a siren and saw a bunch of people standing outside so I texted Maritza and asked her what was going on but she had no idea what I was talking about. A girl on my floor ended up telling me that there was a fire drill and I got scared because if we were caught in our room, then we would get fined and I thought Maritza was just chillin in our room, not noticing that there was a fire drill. And then she told me she wasn't in our room haha. When I did get back to my room, I did some homework and stuff. I skyped Janelle and it was great! Shout out to Janelle!!!!!! Then she left because she was hungry hahaha When Maritza got back, we walked around our residence hall and passed this male a capella group that was singing in this lounge in my hall. We stopped by and listened to them but they only sang a few songs before their practice was over :( We plan on going back for future practices though!! Then I did more homework. THE END!

When I got back to my room, we decided to reorganize our life. I took this picture once everything was on the floor. We both got really hungry and decided to go to this dance thing the hall connected to ours was having and that was the worst decision of my life. It was so awkward and the free food they advertised was just bags of chips. I asked Maritza if we could leave and she finally agreed with me haha. I then pouted on the floor of my room because the last place I wanted to be was in my room so we went out to go find food. That was also a mistake because everybody was dressed to party on a Saturday night and I looked like a normal person.
We got pizza and then we walked forever trying to find a place to sit. Then I bought tea and she bought a thing and when we sat down to drink that in the only place that was not hoppin, we were kicked out because they closed. Boo. So we went back to our room and went to bed. Hahaha we so awesome.

She wrote on everything so it makes everything ten times better haha :) I was cracking up :) My textbook is also in this picture! After this exciting moment, I went to lunch and I tried sushi for the first time! I wasn't a big fan but only because I got one that tasted like a giant vegetable and I'm not a huge fan of giant vegetables....sooooo...yeah. But I have to try more until I make a final conclusion. I also told Maritza that the lunch I had which was just pasta, was the best meal I had so far and I then I told her it was probably because I was having a great day haha :) I'm such a loser :) Towards the end of lunch, I realized that I needed to be leaving for class so I ditched her and went back to our room. We had our first German quiz and it was the easiest thing of my life! Yay! I'm pretty sure this was the first legit German test I had ever taken in my life! Then I had my Stars, Galaxies, and the Universe class! We actually started learning about things today and it was so super interesting!! After class, I exited out of a random door and got twisted around and ended up getting lost in some neighborhood haha. Maritza called me while I was finding my way back to ask if I wanted to go with her to the post office and while she was heading towards the post office and I was trying to get home, we ended up running into each other on the sidewalk while still on the phone haha our life is joke :) So I decided to go with her to the post office even though it was a billion degrees out. We actually never got to the post office because she realized she had to go to another doctor's appointment and she wanted me to go with her but it was super hot and I didn't want to walk all the way there so I said no and left her hahaha :) I'm the best. On my way back to the room, I was stopped by someone and I registered to vote on campus! Yay!
I did some homework which was pretty unproductive and then Maritza came home. We decided to go to dinner and we were planning on doing one of our homework assignments together but we didn't feel like doing it after dinner. I went to the library and she joined me later and I actually got work done!! Yay! Then we went to a No Shame Theater thing which was really weird and funny and we just got back not that long ago. Yay! Now I'm tired.

I took this creeper picture because the guy's laptop was the coolest thing I had ever seen. He has a Mac and he has a Giving Tree picture on it!! It was soooo awesome!!!
Now I'm procrastinating from studying from my German quiz tomorrow by talking to Maritza. I have already established that her and me are going to be problems when we actually need to start doing real homework hahaha :)

As you could tell from this picture, the weather was pretty crappy. It was actually storming out during the ceremony and people were leaving in herds once it started to rain. There was a part where the president mentioned graduation and right when she said "graduation" a loud thunder clap sounded. The president finally released us after we were all soaked and we were able to go to her block party. Here are a bunch of people fleeing to the block party while it was raining (you can't tell it was raining in the picture):
I stopped back at the dorm with Maritza and two other girls in our hall and we changed into something warmer since the rain was freezing. Of course that meant that it was hot out by the time we got back outside. The block party was nice but I didn't eat that much because I was still extremely full from lunch. The people from the Dance Marathon was there and they danced and it was cool but eventually it looked like it was going to rain again so we had to leave earlier than usual. Maritza and I went back to our dorm and I just kind of chillaxed while she skyped her sister and then we planned a dance party. We invited two girls down the hall and she invited friends she has and I invited Elly but Elly and one of Maritza's friends were the only two that showed up. When our dance party started, there was a knock on our door and two different girls in our hall invited us to a dance party in the lounge downstairs so we went to that. It was really hot there and barely no one danced and a lot of people left but it was still really fun even though it didn't last very long. We walked our friends home/to the bus stop and now we're ready to go to bed since it's the first day of class tomorrow!!!

A lot of people were crowd surfing and at one point that asked people to put lighters in the air if they had them and so that was cool. There were so many people there though and it was really hard to move without bumping into somebody!:
Now we made it back to our room and were going to shower because we're narsty haha :) One more day of summer!

I'm in the upper left hand corner of the bottom line of the I! Look for me! I met a lot of people at the stadium and while we were walking to the stadium but I don't really remember any of their names because there were just so many people! After the I, we sat in the stands and listened to a million people talk and we sang the fight song and did other cheers a bunch of times. It eventually got really cold out and I was miserable but then we were allowed to leave. Since the stadium was on the opposite side of campus, I had no idea where I was or how to get to the river to get back to where I was supposed to be so I ended up getting lost on the way home but I asked some nice Iowa guides who were willing to lead me back home! Yay! I made it back safely and then my roommate asked me to play bingo with her in a different building. I barely played bingo by the time we decided to leave and then we decided to meet some of our neighbors and eventually there was a bunch of girls sitting on the floor of our dorm room! Yay! I probably will remember their names since I will be seeing them a lot throughout the year! Now I'm finally going to bed after a long day of seeing a whole lot of faces!
August 16, 2012 - MOVE IN!
Isn't she the cutest?!?! I love her and I won't get to see her adorable wrinkly face for a long time :( We packed all my stuff in the car (and by "we" I mean "Dad") and it filled so much space!! I didn't even know there was this much stuff that was needed to live. I asked Kelley to take a picture of me by the car:
You probably can't tell how much stuff there is, but it's packed!!!! At 9:45ish, we set out!!! We stopped at this diner place attached to a gas station and had a brunch type meal and then we set off again!! Here we are passing the Illinois/Iowa border!!!:
Yay! My new home for the next four years!!! We got to the dorm around 2:30ish and then we checked in and started moving my stuff in! The room is super huge which I was totally not expecting! I thought I would be cramming everything into drawers and stuff but I have so much extra space and I feel like I need more stuff to fill it! My roommate was already moved in when I got there and she was out with her family while I was moving in, but she did show up when we were almost done and our families got to meet! After checking in for Iowa, we decided to take some pictures by the capital building which is what the POD is!! And here is me and my roommate taking sister pictures:
Yay! It's kind of awkward, but don't pay attention to that! After the pictures, the fam and I went to eat at Chipotle and then we just kind of walked around until it was time for them to leave :( It was a sad farewell but it won't be long until I'm home again and they'll be waiting for me to leave!! When I got back to my room, we just kind of sat around and then some girls stopped by and we decided to explore and check out where the laundry room was. We then learned there was this game of Apples to Apples going on in the lobby of the floor we were on, so we joined the game and it eventually got super huge. At one point, a lot of people left and it was just me and five other people playing and then I decided to go back to the room. The school was having this cool Target takeover thing tonight where a bunch of students were going to and they were handing out free things and there were supposedly a lot of sales. My roommate and I decided to go to that and it took a while to get there but eventually we managed! I ended up getting a lot of free stuff like they said but I also got a toothbrush because I realized I forgot mine...hahaha and a Sharpie because I like having a Sharpie. The line to check-out was seriously wrapped around the entire store but it moved pretty fast because all the lanes were open and people were directing traffic. There was a DJ there and the lights to all the check-out lanes were flashing and it kind of made my night :) After that, we took a bus back to the dorm and now I'm about to go to bed! Yay! First day was a success!!

Kyle said he always remembered seeing this house while hiking the trails when he was little but you were never able to get to it. Today, there were no fences blocking off the area so we decided to risk it and take the hike over to the house...it was pretty nice! After hiking the trails, we stopped at the tiny store in our town and then we went home and ate lunch. After lunch, we went over to Grandma's to visit her and say goodbye before I leave!! Kelley had to work at 3:30 so we couldn't stay at grandma's that long. Kyle needed to do some errands so I drove him around while he did his stuff. We also picked up Chinese while we were in town and then we ate it as a family without Kelley because she was still working. After dinner, I started packing! It was very intense because I had to do all my laundry still and I feel like I'm bringing way too much stuff....We'll see!! Oh boy!! I'm a college girl!!

For some reason, we decided it would be a good idea to take the picture standing on the platform for the binoculars...those aren't meant for three people....which is why I'm falling off.... And then Mom and Dad took a cute picture:
Awww how cute! We walked around the starved rock portion in the beginning which is where we took these two pictures, and then we went on the trails and looked at different look outs. The places overlooked canyons and the Illinois River. Since Illinois has been in the drought, there was absolutely no water flowing in the canyons or in the tiny streams that were supposed to be next to the paths but it ended up being okay because that means there were no bugs! The total amount we walked was about 3 miles and it was really nice! After that, we decided to get ice cream but I turned that down because I was still digesting my breakfast glue. Then Kyle introduced the family to geocaching and there happened to be three in the area where we were. Here is us at the first place:
The thing ended up not being there and we think it is because that corner was recently under construction and everything could have been moved around. And here is us at the second place:
We also didn't find the thing here either but the place where Dad is looking is where it was supposed to be. At the third place, we did find a film canister!! I didn't take pictures but it was hidden in a tree and Kyle signed our names on the slip inside. We also left a tiny fuse thing and a tiny hairband because there was nothing better to leave in our car...so yeah. On the way home, we all fell asleep except for Dad because he was driving. It was such a lovely day spending time with my fam!! I love them!

After the bank, we dropped Grandma back off at home and then hit a few garage sales that were across the street. Then we headed off to town! We started at a dollar store and then we went to Target. We ate at Olive Garden for lunch and got bottomless soup and salad! Then we went to T.J. Max, Five Below (which was a waste of our time), Bed Bath and Beyond, Wal-mart (where the majority of our purchase was spent), Meijer, Kohl's, and Ulta. Our final purchase was somewhere between $0 and $10,000...I'll let you guesstimate :) I might have left out a store in that list....but I can't remember.
We ended up getting home a little after 5 which is crazy because that means we were gone for about 7 hours. We ate dinner outside and then Mom and Dad left to go to Sam's. Kelley and I separated all our stuff in the living room. I started putting things together like putting objects in their containers and such. I (mostly Kelley) put a cute bow on my cork board and now it's adorable! Kelley is doing some crafties now and Dad is picking Kyle up from the train station! Mom is really pooped from a whole day of shopping so now we're all just chillaxing! Yay for college!

When we got home, we all ate lunch and then Mom and Kelley left for work. I ended up being productive today and doing my online class for Iowa and then putting my laundry away! I'm glad I finally got those two things off my chest! Then we ate dinner and watched a little bit of the Olympics while I took my post-test for my class. It was a sexual harassment class thing and I had to watch 14 videos today which were really long and slightly boring. But now I'm done!! Yay! Now Kelley and I are going to read and go to bed because tomorrow we have to get up early to go apartment/dorm shopping!!!
August 9, 2012 - Dunesday
They go very far off into the distance! If you just keep looking, you'll keep seeing more steps!!! After we got to the end of the walkway, we saw this very steep path that led to a top of a hill and we weren't sure if we were allowed to climb it so we did it anyway. It ended up being super hard to climb the hill since it was literally 90 degrees straight up. Here was the view we saw when we got to the top:
We did see some of the lake from up there but I have better pictures of it later soooo I'll put the better ones on instead. This is a picture of the steep hill after we had conquered it:
So steep! The way down from the top of the hill was super fun because if you ran, then you FLEW down!! It was seriously so much fun to bound down and would be worth the crazy hike up just to go back down again!! After the hill, we walked our way farther down the trail until we reached the beach!
So beautiful!! For those that don't know, the Indiana Dunes are on Lake Michigan and let me tell you how much Lake Michigan freaks me out!! I seriously cannot wrap my head around how a lake can be as gigantic as that! It seriously looks like an ocean!!! I don't understand... Anyway, we put our feetsies in the lake and it ended up being pretty warm!:
If it wasn't overcast and rainy, we would have swum and we even brought our swimmy suits today to swim but we decided against it. And Lake Michigan has been having crazy riptides (or whatever they're called) lately so maybe it was a good thing we didn't swim?
After a quick feet dunking, we went back to the car and ate our lunch. We had the most magical grapes in all of existence and it was crazy! It was seriously like eating candy! We couldn't stop ourselves from eating them!!!
After lunch, we headed east in search for Mt. Baldy!!! Mt. Baldy is the biggest dune at the Indiana Dunes and it was the farthest east and in the pictures above we were at West Beach. We saw a map that told us where we were and where Mt. Baldy was and when we measured it out we realized we couldn't walk to it because once we reached 8 miles on the map and still weren't there, we decided we should drive there instead. So we hopped in the car and off we went!! It was super confusing trying to find our way there. We learned the hard way that many of the things in the town was named with the word "dune" in it and that does not necessarily mean it'll take you to a dune!!!! Jill drove around a subdivision for a very long time as we were all really confused as where the road was taking us hahaha :) Eventually we decided to go to a visitor's center so Jill could get a postcard and Kelley and I could get a patch. We typed it in our GPS and after the first visitor's center was closed, it led us to the second one. I ended up falling asleep while we drove to the second visitor's center and I woke up when I got there. There were no postcards for Jill but Kelley and I did get a patch and Jill got a nice magnet for her new fridge!! Then we looked at a map to see how far away we were from Mt. Baldy. Since none of us really knew how to get there, we decided to ask the man behind the counter and that job landed to me. I didn't want to ask him how to get to Mt. Baldy because, let's face it, that name is completely ridiculous, so I just pointed to the map instead haha. The guy was super nice and ended up giving us a bigger and better map and the directions to Mt. Baldy weren't that bad!!! At one point he said he could show us a route that will take us through a bunch of subdivisions on a scenic route and we would be saying "where am I?" the whole time and we laughed because we had already been doing that :) Also, apparently while I was asking the guy how to get to Mt. Baldy, there was another lady asking someone where she could find the dunes which we all found super hilarious :D
After we left the visitor's center, we eventually made it to where Mt. Baldy was!!!!!! We missed the turn down the road that was supposed to drive us along the lake but it was okay because we ended up taking that on the way home! There were a lot of warnings at Mt. Baldy about strenuous hikes along the trails and they were telling us to bring water and such because the trail could be exhausting. It ended up not being that strenuous at all...our hike up the steep hill before was so much harder!!! But we did make it to the top of Mt. Baldy!!:

After our climb, we decided to go back to the car and get our towels and books so we could lay on the beach and read. We had to take a different trail to get to the beach but eventually we got there:
The water here was a lot colder than at the first beach we were at. We set down our towels and ate some snacks and then we went to reading. We all ended up falling asleep on the beach but we were close to a park ranger so we're hoping he was watching over us as we slept. We all got super cold while we were sleeping so we had to wrap up in our towels in awkward ways to stay warm and so that we could still lay on them. We took some nice pictures on the beach before heading back to the car! We were all a tad hungry so we decided to call it an end to a successful day at the dunes!
The car ride home was very intense because we hit Chicago traffic and we were stuck in stop/go traffic for over an hour!! We stopped at Chipotle to get some food in our tums and then we made our way home!
Jill stayed and watched Bridesmaids with us since she had never seen it before and she loved it! Yay! And then she went home and we all went to bed!!! Yay for a successful dunesday!!!!! We are definitely going back there again someday!

I ate a sandwich when I got home and that was at like 3 so it was actually like a linner. We ended up doing pretty great in the garage sale today even though it's Sunday! When I got home, I just sat with the fam until we decided to close down. We packed up all the stuff into boxes and then we ate dinner. After dinner, we decided to drive to the cute new general store. Kelley and I actually biked there and Mom and Dad drove but here's the adorable place:
Ain't it cute?! I'm kind of obsessed with it. Kelley and I got mint cones again and we took the adorable POD together. Kelley said she looked disgusting today and I looked cute so she wanted me to be the front person in the picture which is why I'm giving her a piggy back ride. After our ice cream, we rode home and then we started watching the Olympics. Jill came over then because we decided a couple days ago to check off another item on our summer bucket list and this item was doing Pinterest crafts! My craft was making a button bracelet:
Yay! I'm in love!! I also made Jill one and am soon going to make Kelley one! Jill made fabric picture things that she is going to hang in her apartment and Kelley made a menu thing she is also going to hang in her apartment. We also planned our dunesday that is going to take place on THURSDAY! Now Jill went home and that's pretty much it! It was a great day!
